Back to school!

Yosh and Soya have returned to their old school to say hello. It was a visit filled of nostalgic feelings. It was very interesting to see how some things have changed, while others remained the same.

Why they’d returned you ask? This is how it started.

The principal of the old school, who had seen Yosh and Soya on TV and read articles about them, discovered that the Swedish manga artists are are his former students using pseudonyms. When he put up the articles on the walls of the school corridors some students recognized Yosh and Soya and got very happy knowing those two once went to the same school as them. At the students requests, Yosh and Soya were contacted by their old principal who asked them to pay their old school a visit and say hello to the students.

After talking about old memories with the principal and other teachers, the sisters went to the classroom of grade six. Many of the students were curious but shy. Some of them had Yosh’s book “Yosh! Teckna manga!” and “Mangatalangen 2006″ with Soyas award winning manga in front of them on their desks. Yosh invited them to come up with the new EmoRobo Chihuahua GlobalWarming Destroyers to break the ice. Now the students were not shy anymore! The requests and ideas came thick and fast and everybody had ideas of what they wanted to see. Yosh did her best drawing on the whiteboard to make everybody happy.

Thanks

Yokaj Studio mingled around with other known Swedish manga profiles such as Åsa Ekström (manga artist) and Kwok-Hei Mak (manga artist), Zimeon Lundström (manga expert and translater), Johan Cedmar Brandstedt (editor at Swedish Manga Mania and Shonen Jump) and Tove Lindholm (manga writer for morning paper .SE, manhwa translater and also a collegue of Kajfa at a Swedish game developing company).

Bonnier Carlsen holding a welcome speach to their guests.

A delicious buffet for all the guests!

The dessert was soon no more.

Soya and Yosh discussing something. The food, perhaps?

Project Fotoskrap!

Yokaj Studio has participated in Fotoskrap, a project by the Swedish photographer Christer Järeslätt. Christer travels around in Sweden photographing Swedish comic artists. Afterwards he lets the artists scratch the negative to make charachters, forms, moods. It’s a very inspiring and creative project. The results are really fun, seeing how the artists play with the negatives. Christer’s ambition is to hold a larger exhibition of the Fotoskrap project and then to eventually release a photo book.

Christer Järeslätt arranging his camera. It’s like a dance!

We let ourselved be photographed in Sergels torg. Here you see DoraJen taking position.

Soya sends invisible signals to a invisible receiver!

We had to scratch the negatives while they were wet. Afterwards we let them dry.

We chose to scratch our avatars into our photographs. The final product will look something like this.

Thanks

We would like to thank Christer Järeslätt for asking us to participate in his collection. We are very satisfied with the result and hope Fotoskrap will become a even more successful project!
