Yosh on national television!

On Thursday, Yosh appeared as a guest on Malou’s show, “Efter Tio” on TV4. Yosh had been invited to talk about manga, and she also got the task to manga-fy the host. Other guests were the lovable signer Lena-Maria Klingvall, Stefan Gudasic, KÃ¥re Halldén, Per Holknekt, Ernst Billgren and Thomas Bodström.

The show had just started and Malou was telling the tv-watchers about today’s topics. On the left, you can see Yosh drawing a portrait of Malou.

Later in the show, the subject of manga was brought up. Lena-Maria has been immortalized in a manga. She’s an extremely popular and known singer in Japan (as much as Carola is here in Sweden). She’s also been touring in China, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore. One of Lena-Maria’s unique aspects is that she doesn’t have any arms, and that she sings in the language of the country she’s currently touring in.

Malou asked Yosh to explain what manga is, and why it has garnered such popularity.

Lena-Maria and Yosh, laughing and joking about how it is to manga-fy, and to be manga-fied.

After the show, Yosh, Lena-Maria and father Rob (a good friend of Lena-Maria’s) were photographed by the entrance of TV4’s studio.

Summary

Yosh enjoyed being on TV again, but it was even more enjoyable than usual, being able to meet Lena-Maria. She (Yosh) has listened to her Japanese songs before, and had always thought that she was Japanese. Those of you who are curious about her and want to learn more, do visit her website!

Yokaj Studio at UppCon, day3!

The third day of UppCon began, which meant that the covnention was drawing near its end. Although you could see that the visitors were tired, they still made themselves get up early to savour the last of UppCon before the doors closed for this year. Of course, we did our best to make sure that our table vistors had a good time!

Our drawing contest, “Design your own Yokaj Doll” continued today as well. Our templates had run out the second day again, and for the third day, we only managed to print out a small number of them. On the picture, we see a roup of girls working on their entries.

Quite a number of things happening here. We see Kajfa talking to Azai, while some guys crouched by our tables, doing their best for our contest. We also see a girl taking a picture of our wall…

… which was nearly filled up to the last inch with all the entries we had gotten for the contest! We’re really proud over all the nice submissions! Many people dropped by just to check out our awesome wall.

Even the staff had a nice time! Here we see one of them engaged in a round of Sumo with a visitor.

Two girls from the comic artist program at the university of Hofors got inspired after yesterday’s lecture with Yosh. They came by on Sunday to buy a copy of “Yosh! Teckna manga!” each.

During the day, Yokaj Studio were attacked by ninjas throwing shurikens made of gingerbread at us! Hungry as we were, we were only thankful of it. We wanted to catch our heroes on a picture, but they managed to disappear in a matter of seconds.

Left: DoraJen with her gingerbread shuriken.
Right: Apparently, the ninjas had left messages with their signatures on every goodie. They call themselves “the Peppercakeninjas.

Left: Yokaj Studio’s little rascal Soya, posing with her gingerbread.

Right: Yosh thought that the best action to take was to eliminate the weapon.

Speaking of attacks, DoraJen was struck with a “critical hit”! She turned as stiff as a rock when a guy cosplaying Tamaki from Ouran Koukou Host Club started to flirt with her in accordance with the character’s personality! Go go Tamaki!

After the initial shock, bursts of laughter ensued! They hugged in order to show that they didn’t mean anything bad. The rest of us in the studio just thought it was hilarious, and have been teasing DoraJen for many days after the incident!

Left: A girl dressed up as a character from Bleach, and a guy dressing up as a cheerleader from the game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan.
Right: A kinky bunch. The guy (yes, guy!) to the right made Yosh surprised and lost when he offered his virginity in exchange for a copy of Yokaj Studio’s school calendar. Needless to say, we don’t engage in such deals, so dear readers, don’t try to do this in the future!

A man cosplaying one of the Green Leaves guys of Yatta fame. It’s difficult to explain what it is. Those of you who don’t know, check this out! It’s hilarious.

A group picture of us.

Summary

That was all from us regarding UppCon! Hope you, the readers, had a nice time reading it. We enjoyed ourselves and the visitors were unexpectedly kind. We got hugged from everything between fans and bears! Hope we get to see eachother again sometime. Until then, have a nice day!

Yokaj Studio at UppCon, day2!

Most people probably know by now that UppCon attracts a lot of visitors. But it might be a bit difficult to comprehend the vastness of it without being there yourself. This photo should be able to tell how crowded it was (the red heart indicates our position). Anyway, we had a lot to look forward to the second day. Every member of Yokaj Studio were there (which might hint towards the amount of pictures in this entry), and in addition, Kajfa was to hold a Sumo tournament!

A couple of morning birds gathered around our table to challenge eachother in the Sumo tournament. The winner turned out to be in this picture…

The moment before the fight ensued. The players are extremely focused.

And here they crashed into eachother! The fight was so intense, Kajfa had to hold the table to keep it standing!

The players, tensely observing the fighs, while waiting for their turn to come.

One after another, the players dropped out, losing their fights.

The corner of shame? A couple of players just having lost a moment ago.

The tournament’s most impressing players mayhaps? Most of the participants were twice as big as these two small girls. But they fought bravely against eachother and everyone else! Kudos to you!

The final round of the tournament was really exciting! Unfortunately we only have it captured on video (which will be uploaded on Sumo’s own website later). Winner of the tournament is Daniel! On the picture posing with Kajfa, the creator of Sumo, with his prizes. After this Daniel took on a challenge with Kajfa, who just barely managed to protect the Yokaj Studio honor! Phew!

What did the others in the studio do in the meantime? Well, Yosh was busy speaking to Mikademus, an UppCon organizer, just checking up on our status. DoraJen did her best to introduce a couple of girl to one of our books.

And introduced well, she did! The girls bought Yosh’ book and got it signed.

Soya played around with some UppConers who wanted to take pictures of her (UppCon had a contest in which the participants were to take pictures of motives based on a list of keywords).

There was a lot of signing throughout the day.

A great number of people bought Yosh’s “Yosh! Teckna manga!”.

The number of Yokaj Studio anthologies we had left when the day began. They were sold out by the end of the day!

By lunch time Yosh stepped up on the big stage to give a lecture that was a bit different from her other ones. Instead of the usual how-to-draw lessons, Yosh shared her experiences and insights on how to step up from being an amateur artist to a professional one. She also revealed a couple of Yokaj Studio’s success-strategies.

The other sice of the stage during Yosh’s lecture.

A couple of our loyal fans (Manda and Elinor often write in our guestbook), had, during the first day, gotten autographs from Yosh, DoraJen and Soya. With Kajfa joining us on the second day, the girls saw their chance to get a complete collection of Yokaj-autographs!

Manga and Elinor, proudly showing their autographs coupled with the Yokaj dolls we had drawn for them.

After that, the girls challenged eachother on a round of Sumo.

And surely the second day could be titled the Sumo day! David and Nina from Science Fiction Bokhandeln having a round of Sumo against eachother.

Even DoraJen got challenged!

Left: Azai, another Yokaj fan who oftens writes messages in our guestbook, holding a school calendar (skoldagbok) signed by everyone in the studio.
Right: Yohio (with the bandana), also a regular in our guestbook! Here pictured trying out Sumo. Long talks with Kajfa ensued afterwards.

Hereon we’ll post pictures of cosplayers. On this one, we see MegaMan (or rather, MegaWoman) posing together with Kajfa.

Left: A cosplayer who’s like a carbon copy of Harima from the School Rumble-series. Natural cosplay!
Right: Keroro from Keroro Gunso!

Left: Pixelninja, as she calls herself, dressed up as Samus from Metroid. Impressing work as usual!

Right: Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Carribean movies. We saw him (we think) one year ago on the book fair at Göteborg. Still as good as ever!

Left: Not a single maid that we met in Akihbara managed to make as strong an impression as this fair one!
Right: A bloody Gloomy bear terrorising the visitors with hugs.

Left: A girl with a cool weapon. Cosplaying as a character from Hellsing.
Right: Another girl dressed up as the fan-favorite Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

Left: Master Chief frm Halo.
Right: Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda series.

Cosplayers dressed up as Cloud and Zack from FFVII, walking by our table.

Two girls cosplaying as Sora from Kingdom Hearts, treating us to a fight right in front of our table!

DoraJen with a Kuja (from FFIX) cosplayer.

Thanks

During the second day, we got the opportunity to meet a couple of devoted fans, whom touched us deeply. Thank you for coming and telling us that you appreciate our work! It means a lot to us. We also want to thank all participants in the Sumo tournament, and also apologize to those who missed it due to a time issue. Next time, we’ll make sure that the tournament’s going to be even better!
