The best manga happening in Sweden 2008!

The Swedish manga magazine Shojo Stars asked a couple of Sweden's greatest manga profiles to list "What was best manga happening in Sweden during 2008". One of the was Fredrik Strömberg (chairman of Swedish Comics Associations, editor for Bild och Bubbla and teacher at comic school of Malmo ) who replied:

"That Yokaj Studio finally got the contract to produce their manga series Kick off! I have waited a long time for their chance to come to get to make a longer story, and not only instruction books."

As for us, we can only agree! Kick Off is the best happening for the studio in 2008!

Denmark's biggest manga convention J-Popcon will be taking place at the end of this week. Yokaj Studio has been invited as guests! We will be holding three seminars, whereas one of them is about making of our manga Kick Off!. We will also be selling Kick Off! manga at place. Another guest that's been revealed is game producer Kenjiro Morimoto from Sonic Team at Sega. J-Popcon will be opening it's doors Friday and closes at Sunday. Read mor at J-Popcons website.

Yosh shows up on TV show Pang Pang!

Our studio memeber Yosh showed up on Swedish national television yesterday on the Pang Pang! show. She gave the hosts Mattias and Melker a quick lesson in manga drawing. We are back from book fair!

Last weekend we were in Swedish Book Fair in Goteborg to promote our new graphic novel manga Kick Off!. We had a great time and we hope our fans and people who came to our seminars and workshops also had fun! You can read more about the event in our blog. We are going to Swedish Book Fair!

The biggest book fair Bok & Biblioteksmässan in Sweden will be opening it's doors next week! We will be there Saturday and Sunday to do some advertising for the studio and our new manga Kick Off!. Here's our schedule for the weekend:

Saturday
14.00-14.20 We will be drawing manga potraits of people at Nallescenen, Barnens Torg Hall A

16.00-?? We will be signing Kick Off! and do some manga potraits of people at Science Fiction bookstore's display area.

Sunday
13.00-15.00 Fredrik Strömberg will be giving an introduction to his new book "Mangabiblioteket". AFter that Yokaj Studio will reveal some behind the scene material in making of Kick Off!

Kick Off! Mega release!

Our Swedish manga Kick Off! vol1 has finally hit the book shelves! We celebrate this joyful happening by releasing a movie trailer of Kick Off! vol1. The trailer can be found in the offical KO site: www.kickoffmanga.com (so far it's Swedish only, but eventually we will make an English version of the site).

We have also noticed an increased number of entries in our Swedish guestbook/BBS about Kick Off!. As a gift to our frequent writers we release two new Kick Off related icons!

Please check our site a little now and then for updates. We are going to start blogging about the development work of Kick Off! in a close future.

Our Planet Rescuers comicstrips in Swedish!

Last winter Yokaj Studio was commissioned to design and make the graphics to the quiz game Planeträddarna ("The Planet Rescuers") which, among others, WWF and Söderenergi produced. The game received great response and has now had its own website launched. Our comic strips about the heroes in the game are also featured on the site, so check them out at our Showcase (Portfolio -> Showcase) or at the Planeträddarna website!

SF-bok holds Kick Off!-contest!

To celebrate the release of Kick Off! 1, the first installment of six in Yokaj Studio's first manga series, the Science Fiction Bokhandeln is holding a contest where they will be giving out ten signed copies of the book. All you need to do to win a copy is to choose the correct answer to the question asked. The contest is unfortunately only available for Swedish citizens.

Yokaj Studios is together with the publishing house B. Wahlströms currently working on a new Swedish manga graphic novel series called Kick Off!. Six books are planned to be released, and the first one will hit the Swedish bookstares already in September. Kick Off! is made for all teenagers, guys as well as girls. Click here to know more!

Manga Skoldagbok (manga school calendar) 2008/2009 is now out in bookstores in Sweden! To commemorate this event, we made four new icons for our guestbook/BBS, with the main characters from the book. Yokaj Studio at Comic Expo in UK!

We have been invited to the Bristol International Comic Expo at UK. The event will take place 9-11 May. Many famous creators from UK, USA and Japan are invited as well. It's time for Bristol International Comic Expo in UK! And we have been invited as guests to show up as Swedish manga artists. We will be showing up our books, selling illustrations and pins. But the most interesting thing is to see how the people at UK will like our game Sumo! This is our expo schedule:

Our manga calendar Manga Skoldagbok was a huge success last year! That's why we have been asked by the publisher B. Wahlstroms to make a new Manga Skoldagbok 2008/2009. Yokaj Studio at opening of library !

The new library in Alby celebrates it's opening with a big party! There will be music, mingle and artists, all with connection to Alby. We will participate in Nippon Day fair!

Every year students from Stockholm School of Economics, the Royal Institute of Technology and Hitotsubashi University in Japan have arranged an event called Exchange Japan. The main purpose is to obtain good relations between Swedish and Japanese students and companies. Yokaj Studio has been invited to participate as fair exhibitioner!

Sumo displayed at game exhibition!

Yokaj Studio's award winning game Sumo is currently being diplayed at the exhibition Dataspel (Computer Games) at Sweden's National Museum of Science and Technology. It's is the first exhibition in Swedish history to show the culture and history of computer games. The exhibition is now open and will end in 19 March.

Planet Rescueras out now in Swedish!

Finally the quiz game Planet Rescuers is availible (Swedish only)! You can access the game from their website. The game is mainly for 11-13 years old kids. The goal is to make them more aware of environmental issues. WWF (World Wide Fund for nature) and Soderenergi are behind this game. Yokaj Studio was recruited to design and produce all the game graphic. Read more about it in our blog!
